The annual tree lighting ceremony in downtown Seattle this Friday has a new twist: Gee and Ursula!
You can be a part of the Downtown Seattle Association’s annual tree lighting this Friday at Westlake Center. The more then 30-year-old tradition will be “bigger and brighter than ever,” the DSA said.
Gee and Ursula will be emceeing the event this year, counting down the clock to the beginning of the post-Thanksgiving holiday celebrations.

Ursula said she is very excited to be hosting the event, especially because it gives her the opportunity to give back to the community in a year when many are seeing family again for the holidays after the pandemic.
“We are honored that we got asked to emcee this event. And this is also a very special year because we’ve gone through a tough couple of years,” Ursula said. “And so this is really going to be the first time when everything is back open again. And people will be back downtown and they’re going to be in a great mood and we’re just going to help celebrate the season.”
Gee promised an exciting event, but don’t expect him to stick to the script.
“I think the Seattle Downtown Association was very smart to have the both of us do it. And here’s why Ursula is actually going to make sure that everything stays on schedule. And all the things get said what needs to be said, she’s going to actually stick to the script, because that’s important,” Gee said. “As for me, I’m just going to be happy to be there. So whatever comes out of my mouth is going to be just what’s on my soul and what’s on my heart.”
Live music will kick off the event with a two-hour live concert featuring surf-rock band Warren Dunes, a cappella carolers Holiday Harmony POP, the gospel group African American Cultural Ensemble, and Motown vocal trio The Jewel Tones starting at 3 p.m.
Gee & Ursula are on duty at 5 p.m. for the countdown to light the tree, illuminating the Macy鈥檚 Star and sending dazzling fireworks into the downtown sky. The event will end with a grand finale concert featuring local Americana band The Dusty 45s.
