Scenario: Now, my wife and I, like you probably, we’ve been hit hard by inflation, and we’re looking for ways to either get a job, take on some extra work, or start some kind of side hustle. My wife has an idea that she says will allow us both to quit our jobs, make more money than we’ve ever made, and work from home. She read about a couple making $20,000 a month on OnlyFans. And she wants us to be the next couple that lays it all out there for the public and get paid for it. I thought this was just some wild idea that would pass, but she’s excited about it and has researched it. She says we would post whatever we want. We can even include moments when we’re just laying down in bed, we don’t even have to be doing anything. Now I’m reluctant, but she says most of the videos would be of her, and then she would have me come in from time to time. Now, I don’t know what to do. First, she seems way too excited about this. It seems like it’s not just the money, it’s something more than that. Second, I’m worried our friends will find out, our parents, or the parents of our kids’ friends. We have a six- and an eight-year-old. But I have to admit, it makes sense to be able to work from home and do it only when the kids are at school or in bed. With that money, we could buy a house for the first time, and we could afford a big place that’s large enough for my mom to live with us. She has some health issues and needs to be with family. 

Ursula Reutin: Okay, first things first, you asked me whether I had an OnlyFans account. And I said, of course not. And so I’m going to ask you, do you have one? I shouldn’t assume anything. First of all, this idea that they’re going to quit their jobs and they’re going to make $20,000 a month because someone else does is wrong. You don’t know what people will pay you unless you do it and see that they’re willing to pay you. Someone else does it and they make that much money, doesn’t mean you’re going to.

Gee Scott: All the MLMs would like a word with you.

Ursula: Don’t assume that just because someone else is doing really, really well, that means you will have that same experience. Clearly, the fact that he says, ‘I worry about what my parents would think, what other family members would think, what our friends would think, and more importantly, my young children would think,’ is a big consideration. Are you going to be proud of telling your kids, ‘mama and I are taking pictures of ourselves naked and putting them online?’ If you’re okay with that, then you do you.

Andrew “Chef” Lanier: This is a terrible idea. I hate to be a Debbie Downer. But it is a terrible, terrible idea. The idea that you are somehow going to land yourself in the top 1% of OnlyFans earners just lounging around in your bed, just with a cup of coffee and a sheet suggestively wrapped around your shoulder. I don’t think that’s how OnlyFans works. Plus, once the content is out there, you can never claw it back as much as you would like to. I hope you don’t have any job that requires you to be public facing. I understand that people can make money off this, but if your business plan is getting naked, try this. First, try a poll of your friends. Just ask your friends, ‘how many of you would pay to see us together naked?’ I bet the answer is going to be zero. There’s your business plan right there. Just talk to your friends and see what they think.

Gee: I only have one piece of advice for them. Just don’t quit your main job. If you’re going to do side hustles – by the way, as someone who loves side hustles, that’s my thing. Always keep your main job, I advise you on this all the time, Nick.

Nick Creasia: You do. And I’ll harp on something else to say, ‘go ahead.’

Gee: Keep the main thing, the main thing. If you want an opportunity to see if you can make some side money, go ahead! On your OnlyFans account, you can do whatever you want to do. As far as your friends talking about you and what people got to say, here’s what I’ve learned in life no matter what: if you’re rich, if you’re poor, there’s always going to be somebody talking about you and they talk about you bad behind your back. So don’t worry about what other people got to say, Nick.

Nick: Well, the line has to be drawn here. These folks are definitely out of their league with this one and I’m going to harp on something else you say, Gee. You can do a lot of weird, strange, questionable things for a little bit of dough, but on this one, I think they should just stick with what you do, plus a little DoorDash or something. They are just way out of line on this one.

Gee: Fair answer.
