While investigating their barking dog last week, a seven-year-old girl in Woodinville was met with a surprise visitor: a burglar had broken into her home and was sitting in their living room with two bags of the family’s possessions.

“While she was downstairs, I heard a man鈥檚 voice, so I jumped up and went downstairs and some random guy was sitting in my living room,” said Justin, the father of the seven-year-old, in an email sent to the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. “For the past seven minutes or so, he had gotten computers, electronics, my wallet, and other stuff and filled up two bags.”

The suspected burglar parked his car in Justin’s driveway as if “he owned the place.” The home was occupied by Justin and his two daughters while his wife was away visiting her father.

The suspect was not aggressive towards Justin or his daughter, according to Justin, and instead tried to play the incident off by claiming he entered the wrong house.

After taking his own items bagged up by the intruder by force, Justin followed the man outside as he was trying to get away in his car.

“And then, I stupidly went after him and ripped the door open and threw him on the ground,” Justin said. “And then I stepped back and put my hand behind my back pretending I had my gun on me and started yelling at him. So he sprawled out on the grass. Then he was just laying there. I started yelling for my neighbor across the street, trying to get some help because I didn’t have my phone or a gun on me. So, I go back into my house and run upstairs, get my phone, come back, and he’s still laying there and then I call the police.”

Justin made sure to praise the Woodinville police’s swift response.

“I don’t know how many exactly, 7, 8, 9 cops came with sirens. They got there so fast,” Justin said. “And I want to say they were amazing. They were great with my kids. My kids were freaking out crying. My oldest ran upstairs, went under her bed and started praying.”

Justin and his kids have since talked with their teachers, the principal, and the school counselor over the incident.

“I have my gun on me. I have a concealed weapons permit. It’s expired. I went and renewed it,” Justin said when asked what has changed for him since the incident on the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. “I never carried it. I didn’t like it on me. I bought them for protection. But I never carried them on because I don’t like it. It’s uncomfortable. And now I’m like, I have to have it on me now.”
