State Rep. Jeremie Dufault (R-Yakima) didn鈥檛 mince words when discussing the direction Washington鈥檚 state budget is heading under Democratic control, in an interview on “The John Curley Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio.
Dufault, an Army Reserve veteran, slammed the state鈥檚 proposed operating budget as a bloated, tax-heavy monstrosity. With $15 billion in new taxes on the table鈥攊ncluding property tax hikes鈥擠ufault warned that working families will be hit hard.
鈥淲e are driving off a cliff,鈥 Dufault said. 鈥淭hese increases will make it harder and more expensive to buy or rent a home in Washington State.鈥
He鈥檚 particularly incensed by the explosive growth in government since COVID and the wasteful spending that鈥檚 come with it. One of his priorities? Shuttering agencies like the Office of Equity, which he says burns $20 million annually in pursuit of equal outcomes rather than equal opportunity.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 not something government should be doing,鈥 he said.
It’s time for cuts, Dufault says
Dufault also backs proposals to eliminate educational bureaucracy that doesn鈥檛 directly serve students. 鈥淚f you do not have daily direct interaction with students, your office goes away. That money should go to special education and real priorities.鈥
He praised the Senate Republican budget, which balances without raising taxes by trimming unnecessary spending and restructuring pay increases for state workers. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not that difficult,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he deficit is manufactured.鈥
As for Governor Bob Ferguson? Dufault鈥檚 鈥渟pidey sense鈥 says tax increases are coming鈥攏o matter what Ferguson claims now.
鈥淗e鈥檒l cave. It鈥檚 just a matter of time.鈥
