Car catches fire after crashing into barrier on SR 507, driver remains missing

A driver crashed into a barrier on State Route 507 (SR 507), causing his car to catch on fire Sunday night, according to South Pierce Fire & Rescue.
The crash occurred at approximately 10 p.m. near 8th Avenue South near Spanaway. No one was inside the car when they arrived, according to responding crews.
“Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly deployed hand lines to suppress the fire and confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied,” South Pierce Fire & Rescue stated. “A thorough search using a thermal imaging camera was conducted in the surrounding brush, ensuring no one was injured.”
Firefighters prevented the car fire from spreading before the Washington State Patrol (WSP)and Pierce County Sheriff’s Office arrived to help with traffic control.
There is no word about what caused the crash, as of this reporting.
