Deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office allegedly shot a domestic violence suspect in Spanaway Sunday evening. The Pierce County Force Investigative Team is now investigating the shooting.
Deputies tracked down a man who was allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident with a weapon Sunday, locating him at approximately 5:34 p.m. Deputies had probable cause to arrest the person for felony domestic violence harassment.
After initially attempting to pull over the suspect, the vehicle sped off on Pacific Ave S., promoting a police chase. Less than 10 minutes later, the vehicle, still driving on Pacific Ave. S., crashed into a ditch.
According to investigators, the suspect still failed to comply with police even after the car accident. At approximately 5:42 p.m., deputies reported that shots were fired. It’s unclear if the suspect threatened deputies or brandished any type of weapon, as of this reporting.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
All law enforcement agents involved in the shooting are uninjured, according to Pierce County Public Information Officer Carly Cappetto. The deputies involved have been placed on leave as the Pierce County Force Investigative Team looks into the situation.
Officer Involved Shooting
