Every American old enough to remember knows exactly where they were and what they were doing when the first jet hit the World Trade Center towers in New York City 20 years ago this Sept. 11.

They certainly remember the uncertainly they felt seeing two of the nation’s largest buildings crumble into downtown, the smoke billowing from the Pentagon, and the wreckage in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The world changed that day.

Belle: 20 years later, a Seattle couple on falling in love in NYC in the wake of 9/11

What do you remember about that day?

Casey Donnellan-Penders: “In Cabo on my honeymoon. Turned into 2 weeks (instead of 1). Strange being away from home during such a scary time for Americans.”

Pappy Brian: “Watched live the 2nd plane hit the tower and informed my Company Commander to turn on the news. Knew at that moment this was no accident. Many deployments later and retired still have not forgotten the viewing nor fellow Service members lost.”

Jenn Slater: “I remember how Americans treated each other right after 9/11. We have forgotten what happened that day. We鈥檙e all Americans and we need to remember that. May God Bless America.”
