Congressman Adam Smith (D-Wash.) is not holding back criticism after it was with national security advisor Mike Waltz’s office added Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a of senior Trump officials discussing a strike in Yemen.
“This was a horrible breach of safety and security for our troops and for our country,” Smith explained on X.
Smith is joining a chorus of Democrats demanding they see the Signal transcript. The Trump administration insists there was no confidential information shared in the chat.
“They need to tell us how something this unbelievably incompetent could have happened and what they do to make sure that it doesn’t happen again,” Smith added. “And finally, I’ll say it again. This is why hiring people based solely on loyalty to Donald Trump is a problem. We need to hire the best, most competent people to protect the interests of the American people. Clearly, that is not what happened here.”
Later, on CNN, Smith offered “kudos” to Goldberg “for not sharing that sensitive information in public.”
This was a horrible breach of the safety and security of our troops and our country. The lying about it is not going to make it go away.
Tell us the truth and how you’re going to make sure it never happens again.
