A day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided Mt. Baker Roofing in Bellingham, arresting 37, the Washington State Senate Members of Color Caucus (MOCC) said they want the public to know that “Washington is and will remain a welcoming state.”
“The Washington State Senate MOCC recognizes that the recent ICE raids in Washington state have struck at the heart of our communities,” the caucus said in a statement. “These raids don’t just affect individuals; they send shockwaves through entire neighborhoods, disrupt businesses, and create a climate of fear and uncertainty.”
MOCC said the result of the 37 workers being detained, “families are torn apart, parents are taken from their children, and students in schools are left struggling.”
“The MOCC believes we need an immigration system that is humane and just — not one that creates fear and separates families. That’s why we continue to push for state investments that protect due process, provide legal support, and strengthen the rights of immigrant and refugee communities,” it said.
