Stolen vehicle, jaws of life recovered after ATM theft investigation in West Seattle /crime_blotter/stolen-vehicle-jaws-of-life-recovered/4081206 Mon, 28 Apr 2025 21:44:16 +0000 /?p=4081206 Seattle police say an early morning ATM burglary in West Seattle on Saturday led investigators to a storage facility in Bonney Lake, where two people were detained and a stolen vehicle was recovered.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded around 4:59 a.m. to reports of a burglary at an ATM in the 6500 block of California Avenue Southwest.

As the investigation developed, officers traced leads to a storage business in Bonney Lake.

When authorities arrived at the storage site, they detained two individuals for questioning. However, a third person—identified as a suspect—fled the area in a vehicle.

The two people detained were later interviewed and released, according to police.

Seattle police’s General Investigations Unit (GIU) was contacted and responded to the scene. A judge later approved a search warrant for a storage locker connected to the identified suspect.

During the search, officers recovered multiple pieces of evidence, including two sets of the “jaws of life” hydraulic rescue tools.

Investigators also found the stolen vehicle believed to have been used during the ATM burglary. The vehicle was towed to the SPD Vehicle Processing Room, where it will be examined for fingerprints and other forensic evidence after an additional search warrant application.

Seattle Police Criminal Intelligence Unit was consulted regarding several pieces of recovered electronic evidence tied to the case.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Serial cat killer arrested after allegedly roaming Seattle again /local/serial-cat-killer-seattle/4081086 Mon, 28 Apr 2025 17:31:45 +0000 /?p=4081086 An alleged serial cat killer was arrested after roaming Seattle, alarming many cat owners for their pets’ safety.

Homemade traps and snares intended to capture and harm cats have begun popping up in unspecified spots in Seattle, according to posters on Seattle Reddit. The return of the cat traps coincided with the release of Antoine Leander Runner Jr., a 43-year-old man who spent time in prison for first-degree animal cruelty alongside charges for setting up traps without a permit and for mistreating, injuring, and/or killing animals.

“Runner was charged with animal cruelty for a series of grisly cat killings in 2023,” the post on read. “After his release, makeshift traps and snares started popping up again: it became clear he had returned to his hunting grounds.”

Seattle Police Department (SPD) was quickly notified of Runner Jr.’s reappearance.

“While I was conducting an area search for the suspect, a second 911 caller called in to report the same suspect had just walked onto a trail behind the Olympic Foundry, 5210 Airport Way South,” SPD stated. “Officers checked this area and located a male who matched the provided description. He also responded to the name Antoine. I placed Mr. Runner under arrest for the misdemeanor warrant.”

Alleged serial cat killer targets feral cats

According to Seattle Reddit, he would visit food banks for cat food, kennels, collars, leashes, and treats to lure cats and kill them.

“Several of the cats killed in ’23 were from feral cat colonies managed by the Alley Cat Project,” the post on Seattle Reddit read. “Since his return, our trail cam footage shows he comes to the colonies every night to hunt for cats.”

The Alley Cat Project discovered the body of one of the cats from a colony on March 31, disemboweled and publicly displayed. Animal Control confirmed the injuries to the cats were human-caused.

Seattle Animal Control and the Alley Cat Project are warning pet owners to keep any cats indoors, and to take photographs of any makeshift traps discovered.

Tacoma mother wants violence to stop after her 17-year-old son shot, killed /crime_blotter/tacoma-mother-violence-stop/4080031 Fri, 25 Apr 2025 12:29:03 +0000 /?p=4080031 A Tacoma mother is urging for the violence to stop after her 17-year-old son was shot and killed .

Tacoma police are searching for at least one suspect who shot and killed a teenager in Tacoma.

Loved ones identified him as Veron Locket, who attended Mt. Tahoma High School.

Investigators said the shooting happened Sunday night on E. 41st Street.

“I never will get to meet his children. I will never get to meet his children,” the mother said. “I got to go to the funeral service to make arrangements for my baby who was trying to do his best and someone decided to take it.”

“I can’t sleep. All I do is dream about my son,” she added.

The mother said she found out her son’s friend was also killed in Spanaway Thursday morning, just several days after her son’s death.

Her son’s other close friend was also killed seven months prior.

“I’m close to all of their moms,” she said.

“Heartbreaking. Very devastating,” said Chanell Arthur, cousin. “Three days after, so another kid has lost his life. That’s another family in a span of three days. That’s crazy.”

Arthur told łÉČËXŐľ 7 that in order to stop youth violence, she believes the community needs to step up to help keep children safe, adding that families need to have more conversations with their children and with others.

“I don’t want any other family, mother, father, grandmother to experience this and I wish kids would really get that. They are ruining their lives over what? The pain is unbearable,” she said. “How do we as a community stop it? How do we stop it? How do we educate our young kids? How do we talk with them and tell them that is not a way to solve any issue, if there is an issue?”

Veron’s mother added that her son was known for his kind heart and his funny personality. Veron was also a varsity football player for Mt. Tahoma High School and had been invited to play at a bowl game in Hawaii, and had dreams of becoming a chef.

Tacoma police told łÉČËXŐľ 7 that they are not ruling out any possible connection between both shootings in Tacoma and Spanaway.

No one has been arrested in this case, as of Thursday.

A 38-year-old woman from Temple, Texas, has pleaded guilty to setting a fire that caused millions of dollars in damage to a church in Snohomish County,

Natasha Marie O’Dell admitted to setting fire to the Seattle Laestadian Lutheran Church (SLLC) and pleaded guilty to arson, damaging religious property, and obstructing the free exercise of religion. She has been in custody since her arrest in Texas in August 2024.

At the time of the fire, O’Dell was visiting relatives in nearby Woodinville, according to law enforcement. Surveillance video from the church allegedly shows O’Dell walking around the building with a red gasoline canister before pouring its contents along the building’s exterior. Police said the investigation revealed O’Dell bought just over a gallon of gasoline and lighters from a nearby service station. She then used a rideshare service to reach the church.

Texas woman admits to burning Washington church

During her guilty plea, O’Dell admitted she was angry with churches and SLLC specifically. She also reportedly told somebody that she wanted to burn the church. The fire caused over $3.2 million worth of damage, forcing the congregation to rent a local middle school multiple times a week.

Damaging religious property and interfering with religious practice are federal offenses, each punishable by up to 40 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The arson charge comes with a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a potential maximum of 20 years.

Ex-Tacoma resident indicted in substation attacks that caused widespread outages /crime_blotter/substation-attacks/4079720 Thu, 24 Apr 2025 22:55:22 +0000 /?p=4079720

A 33-year-old former Tacoma resident has been for allegedly damaging multiple energy facilities across western Washington, according to Thursday from acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller.

Federal authorities said Zachary Rosenthal and his accomplices aimed to knock out power to disable security systems, making it easier to burglarize nearby businesses and ATMs.

“The idea was to knock out the power in a particular area, and then Rosenthal and his conspirators would then target either local businesses or ATM machines that were within the area that the power was out that were then, easier targets at that point with alarm systems and the light being deactivated,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg said.

Rosenthal is accused of attacking six power substations in the South Sound and Southwest Washington between June and December 2022. Court documents state the group targeted facilities in Lewis, Cowlitz, Pierce, Thurston, and Grays Harbor counties, causing outages that affected up to 6,000 customers at a time. The suspects allegedly used firearms, heavy chains, and physical force to damage electrical equipment.

“Sometimes they just damaged the equipment in a control room by smashing in and breaking it,” Greenberg explained. “Sometimes they use the firearm to shoot into some of the tanks to disable of the system. And other times they used the metal chains which they threw onto equipment which caused short circuits and then power outages.”

Ex-Tacoma resident linked to substation attacks previously indicted

Rosenthal was previously indicted in Oregon in July 2023 for damaging two Portland-area substations. That case is scheduled for trial on November 3, 2025. He is currently serving a prison sentence in Washington for an unrelated vehicular assault conviction.

If convicted on the federal charges, Rosenthal faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.
