The (PCSO) is investigating a home burglary that occurred on February 28 in Parkland that appears to have been targeted.
Law enforcement believes thieves were aware of a 1,000-pound safe in the home — loaded with guns and 6,000 rounds of ammunition — and planned the crime.
“Somebody knew exactly what they were going for,” Carly Cappetto with PCSO said. “They wanted that safe with guns and ammunition. so whoever these suspects are, they knew what they wanted.”
A white Econoline van with a lift was seen on multiple doorbell cameras. At times, it circled the block, appearing to be waiting for the homeowner to leave. The van is clearly seen, but unfortunately, the license plate number is not.
“All that is showing us right now is a white Ford Econoline passenger van coming onto this property at one point and then leaving the property,” Cappetto said.
Investigators suspect the thieves are known by the homeowner.
“If you have a large safe with firearms and/or large amounts of ammunition, to really not spread the word to people that you own those items, and that’s where we see cases like this,” Cappetto shared. “We see cases like this where someone owns a lot of firearms or ammunition. They will invite people over to their homes or post something on social media which allows people to know what you have and what you own, and then it makes you a vulnerable victim for a residential burglary.”
It’s a harsh reality for the homeowner, identified by as Sam Peterson.
“I have a small circle of friends as it is and for someone to gain my trust and do this to me really hurts,” homeowner Sam Peterson told the media outlet. “They violated me and it can happen to anybody.”
