John Curley weighs in /john-curley/social-media-democrats-curley/4081101 Tue, 29 Apr 2025 00:55:18 +0000 /?p=4081101 Is social media “killing” the Democratic Party?

John Curley, host of “The John Curley Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, said that this could be the case, noting that many of those who share posts online could be over-radicalizing the views of the party, giving Republicans a leg up.

“Most people care about…is my kid safe? Am I safe? Do I have a job? Am I making a decent living? Can I afford to buy a house someday?” Curley said. “You know, all that other stuff that you see, because of social media, because of the use of the algorithm, the Republicans don’t have to do a thing. Just put enough people with dyed hair…simply throw them out there and say, well, here you go. These are the Democrats.”

Curley referred to an article in , where reporter Christian Schneider compared the Democratic Party to a farmers market, explaining that Democrats would previously coexist in different kinds of booths, that they “didn鈥檛 necessarily like one another, but they tolerated the strangeness of the coalition because it won elections.”

“Social media, as much as people want to get the word out, is actually causing the party to splinter,” Curley said.

He claimed that social media puts people’s differences on display, forcing the public to see one person’s viewpoint as a symbol for the party.

Repeating history

Curley noted that this happened similarly within the Republican Party as well, recalling the basic philosophy of Pat Buchanan’s Reform Party, which aimed to go “real conservative.” Curley said the creation of this party could be compared to what leaders on the left, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), are trying to campaign for today.

“(Buchanan) said if you had true conservatives, you would win. It’s when you start to move a little bit to the left and try to pick up some of those people, that’s when you lose,” Curley said. “This will be interesting because, right now, AOC is on a tour across the U.S. with Bernie Sanders, and people like talking to her, saying she would make a great president. If we just did the same thing as Pat Buchanan in the 80s, right? If we just got true left? Well, I think it didn’t work for you before, and it certainly won’t work again.”

‘Why should we feel sorry for college students?’: Curley backs May 5 loan restart /kiro-opinion/student-loans-curley/4078970 Wed, 23 Apr 2025 12:00:56 +0000 /?p=4078970 The U.S. Department of Education announced that the government is going to restart involuntary collections for federal student loan borrowers on May 5, .

John Curley, host of “The John Curley Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio, believes college students should absolutely have to pay back their loans.

“This idea that, ‘Oh, I shouldn’t have to pay it back.’ Why not? What about everybody else? Guy takes out a loan for a truck, and he’s got some business. He’s going around putting up drywall or something, or raking up leaves. He’s got to pay the person for the truck. Why would you not? Right? You’re not writing off his loan. Same thing with houses and stuff. Why should we feel sorry for these college students? I have no sympathy at all,” he said.

John Curley: Not paying student loans increases inflation

Curley believes that students not paying their loans increased inflation.

“Now the college student that was paying on average $300, that’s the average college loan payment monthly, they had that extra $300 to spend on something else. So that helped to fuel the inflation,” he said.

Curley also argued that certain majors aren’t valuable.

“In this case, we just give an 18-year-old $50,000, and then you can go major in frisbee tossing, and then, ‘Oh, shocking, nobody wants to hire me. I thought people would want to hire me. I’ve got this degree in American pottery poetry, but apparently there’s no need for that. But I owe $50,000 or I owe $75,000, what am I going to do? Well, I’ll just wait for a person who’s running for president to come along and try to buy my vote by telling me you don’t have to pay it back,'” he mouthed sarcastically.

When asked why does it matter if the person pays back their loans, Curley responded: “You’re only one person, yeah, but if everybody does it, it screws over everybody. You just have the responsibility just to pay it. That’s why I look at it.”

鈥楽tock up now鈥: Gun rights attorney William Kirk blasts Senate gun bill /john-curley/senate-gun-bill/4077257 Fri, 18 Apr 2025 12:00:42 +0000 /?p=4077257 The Washington State Senate voted Monday to tighten gun regulations, passing , which requires anyone who wants to buy a firearm in Washington to get a permit鈥攁pplicants would have to pass a certified firearms safety course, undergo a fingerprint-based background check, and pay several fees. The Senate version also expanded the recordkeeping requirements to all firearm transfers, not just specific types. That means every sale, every gift, every transfer鈥攁ll of it gets logged and tracked by the state.

However, gun rights attorney William Kirk with told “The John Curley Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio Thursday that the bill was expected.

“We saw this one coming from a mile away,” he said. “They tried it last year. Got watered down. It didn’t get watered down this year. So now it’s a reality, and everyone’s been kind of expecting this for a while.”

Senate gun bill would require more intense training

The House passed the bill last month in a 58-38 party-line vote, but the Senate took a different approach鈥攂eefing up the bill, particularly around training.

“So an individual who had the audacity to want to access their Second Amendment rights will need to go through mandatory training, including live-fire training鈥攚hich creates all sorts of issues as I’m not sure how a person could do live-fire training if they don’t have possession of a firearm to begin with鈥攂ut if you do jump through all of those hoops, government will bestow upon you then a permission slip that will then allow you to go to a gun store so that you can purchase a firearm,” Kirk sarcastically explained. “Now, you will have already gone through a background check to get the permission slip, and then you will go to the gun store to go through the exact same background check before you can take possession of that firearm as well.”

John Curley, host of “John Curley,” said there is no data that shows this bill will save lives.

“Absolutely not,” Kirk responded. “And one of the biggest lies they perpetuate is to say that firearms are the number one cause of death for young people. But that’s only if you include 18, 19, and 20-year-olds in the equation, as well. So when they say that it’s the number one leading cause of death of children, that’s actually statistically incorrect.”

Kirk added that when drunk driving happens, no one talks about banning cars or alcohol, but lawmakers continue to bring up banning guns. He believes that Washington Governor Bob Ferguson will sign the legislation, which would then go into effect on May 1, 2027. Kirk also had a message for gun supporters: “Stock up now.”

Curley: ‘The White House did violate the law’ deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia /kiro-opinion/armando-abrego-garcia-trump/4076553 Wed, 16 Apr 2025 19:00:07 +0000 /?p=4076553 Last month’s deportation of illegal immigrant Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Salvadorian national who had been living in Maryland, has led to a flood of controversy. While the Trump administration continues to stand firm on its decision, federal judges have rebuked them, claiming it happened illegally and their orders aren’t being followed.

“Ok, here’s what happened. The guy came into the country. He’s been in the country illegally, I think he came 11 years ago,” John Curley, host of “The John Curley Show,” said. “He’s got a job, wife, kids, everything.”

The Trump administration alleges Abrego Garcia is a member of the brutal gang MS-13, which he and his supporters deny. Nevertheless, he was deported to El Salvador, his home country. But it was done slightly prematurely, according to the administration.

The Supreme Court issued an order on April 10, 2025, directing the U.S. government to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return to the United States because of a previous lower court order keeping him from being sent back to El Salvador. The president of El Salvador indicated this week that he will not return the suspect.

“The government did violate the law. The White House did violate the law when it came to deporting him, because you can deport him, but not to El Salvador, and under what the president is using, this Alien Enemies Act, you don’t have to have due process,” Curley said. “Just grab a whole bunch of people. Oh, you’re on that team? You’ve got these tattoos? You’re a part of that group? Then you’re part of the enemy, so we don’t have to give you due process. We just grab you, sweep you, give you a haircut, and then give you the bum’s rush out of here on the first plane.”

Trump administration digs in

Federal Judge Paula Xinis was very critical of the Trump administration for not complying with a Supreme Court order that requested the White House to “facilitate” the release of Armando Abrego Garcia, 29. In response, Attorney General Pam Bondi made it clear that it鈥檚 “up to El Salvador” to remove Armando Abrego Garcia from El Salvador.

“He is not coming back to our country,” Bondi told on Wednesday.

The聽Trump administration agreed on a $6 million deal with El Salvador to imprison deportees it says are members of the Venezuelan MS-13 gang.

What’s next for Kilmar Abrego Garcia?

“A couple of things. First of all, really?” Curley asked rhetorically. “If the president of the United States turned to this guy, Nayib Bukele (the president of El Salvador), and he was like, ‘I need you in a bear suit on a unicycle, juggling chainsaws.’ ‘Well, I don’t think I would be able to see too well through the bear suit.’ ‘Nope, put it on, get out there, start doing it.’ The guy would do anything. Any one of these people sitting there in the White House will do whatever you want. So to be like, ‘there’s nothing I can do,’ it doesn’t make any sense. The president is saying it’s up to him. No, you’re the president. Go down to the prison and say, ‘hey, find that guy.'”

While an anonymous criminal informant said Armando Abrego Garcia was involved with the MS-13 gang, it has yet to be confirmed. He’s never been charged criminally in the U.S. or El Salvador.

“Trump got elected because he was going to close the border and stop illegal aliens from coming in here and killing people, so he if he goes and caves on this, it just gets down to, how many points does this cost him, right?” Curley said. “How long can he withstand the political, media-driven firestorm of getting this guy home? We’ve already seen the wife on television already, she’s talked about the kids. I think one kid has autism and some other disabilities or something. We’re learning all about this guy and how sad it is for him.

“If he gets killed in that prison in El Salvador, oh my God, then it’s going to be that much more difficult,” Curley added. “I think the president, at this point, is just trying to hold the line because he doesn’t want to cave on this, and is just hoping that he has enough of his populist mojo to weather this storm.”

WA Rep. rips property tax increase: ‘There’s no truth in what they’re saying’ /john-curley/theres-no-truth-property-tax/4076093 Tue, 15 Apr 2025 17:39:22 +0000 /?p=4076093 Tensions are rising in Washington as lawmakers and activists clash over a potential 3% increase to property taxes along with a taxpayer-funded savings account for striking workers.聽

, R-Aberdeen, has voiced sharp opposition to the proposed three percent property tax hike. Walsh joined “The John Curley Show” to discuss the proposals and why he thinks they’re so disastrous.聽

“There’s no truth in what they’re saying. They’re going to keep running taxes up until it’s only their core billionaire class that can afford a home in Washington,” Walsh said. “But we need more help from the people of the state.”

Lawmakers spar over property tax reforms

Curley agreed with Walsh, highlighting that the property tax increase could quickly lead to a slippery slope scenario.

“So they opened this can of worms of 1%, and they wanted to be able to move it around, allow it to go up, and each city would be able to raise or lower, whichever one they want,” Curley said. “I know you guys tried to stop this thing. It’s still alive, obviously, this zombie property tax. So what are you hoping to accomplish?”

“Right now, we’ve got an initiative that cuts it down to 0.5%,” Walsh answered. “I mean, we’re trying to follow good negotiating tactics. When they ask for something outrageous on one end, let’s respond with reason.”

John Curley backs RFK Jr.’s SNAP proposal: ‘Stop funding junk food’ /john-curley/rfk-jr-snap-junk-food-ban/4074820 Sun, 13 Apr 2025 12:00:47 +0000 /?p=4074820 A new proposal from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could block Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients from using benefits to buy junk food. RFK Jr. said that not only would the policy keep Americans healthy, but it could also reduce taxpayer spending.

John Curley, co-host of “The John Curley Show”, agreed with RFK Jr. during an episode earlier this week.

“We have a fattening American population, a sick American population, and we are funding it with our money so people can buy junk food,” he said. “It seems like a pretty simple solution: stop funding junk food so we stop making fat people, that we then have to pay for for the problems.”

And when I heard people are on this radio show talking about, ‘Oh, then we should spend the money on Ozempic,'” he continued. “I have an idea, rather than spending on Ozempic鈥攆ix the problem. And the problem is, you’re not getting enough exercise, you’re not eating the right food.”

Food policy experts wary of RFK Jr.’s SNAP proposal

RFK Jr. is encouraging states to explore the idea, which would require federal approval. However, many food policy experts are skeptical that it would significantly improve public health.

“Here’s what RFK Jr. is saying: we are poisoning people, and then we are paying for the effects of the poison,” Curley said. “The amount of money that the U.S. spends every single year on type 2 diabetes, preventable diabetes, is $412 billion. One out of 10 Americans has type 2 diabetes.”

However, even though the proposal is seeing support from some lawmakers, RFK Jr. is facing a large lobbying wall that could cause difficulties.

“RFK Jr is up against a giant lobbying wall that wants that money to keep coming,” Curley said. “But they could get Congress to pass it.”

Adams County Sheriff accuses state of ‘fearmongering,’ pressuring authorities to ignore federal law amid lawsuit /john-curley/adams-county-sheriff/4074438 Fri, 11 Apr 2025 00:16:04 +0000 /?p=4074438 Washington state filed a against the Adams County Sheriff鈥檚 Office and Adams County last month, accusing them of violating the 鈥攁 law that designates the state as a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants.

On “The John Curley Show” Thursday, Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner explained why authorities feel stuck between state and federal law and the impact of “fearmongering.”

John Curley, host of “John Curley,” first referenced Wednesday’s congressional hearing, where Wagner said both sides are contributing to fearmongering and that the situation is “very political.”

“Let’s talk about both sides,” Curley said. “So, what’s happening on the right? First, what are they doing to politicize this?”

“It’s not politicizing on the right,” Wagner responded. “It’s basically trying to cure a problem, we have an open border situation that is now being secured. We have people that are coming from all over the world, and that’s the biggest thing that affects my county.”

Adams County sheriff emphasizes ‘fearmongering’ regarding ICE

Wagner added that his county has a large Hispanic population and “fearmongering” is seeping in.

“The right is saying, ‘Hey, we’re trying to fix this problem that has been created over the past few years, and it’s happening,'” he said. “Where the other side, it’s the fear mongering. It’s coming into the small counties like mine, who are high Hispanic population, telling my community that ‘You need to fear that the local law enforcement is going to come and round you up and ICE is coming in with buses, and we’re going to load these people up’ and things like that.”

Wagner said the sheriff’s office works with people in the community who are in the country illegally.

“We actually tell the people, ‘Hey, you’re here illegally, but you have to understand that if you break the law here, that’s what puts you in a bigger light to ICE and local police, and so that’s the fearmongering that goes on from the left,” he shared. “And I think that that’s what has been driving a lot of these issues across the state of Washington and probably other communities.”

The AG’s Office claims that since 2022, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has consistently defied state law.

“Sheriff鈥檚 deputies have unlawfully held people in custody based solely on their immigration status,” the lawsuit states. “They have gone out of their way to enable federal immigration agents to interview or question people in custody, including transporting people in county vehicles expressly for that purpose. And they have proactively and routinely shared the nonpublic, personal information of hundreds of Washingtonians鈥攊ncluding birth dates, home addresses, driver鈥檚 license numbers, and fingerprints鈥攚ith federal immigration officials. All of this conduct expressly violates state law.”

Washington state law vs. federal law

Wagner rebutted that he has a duty to uphold public safety and argued that Washington state is, in effect, asking the sheriff’s office to disobey federal law.

“The reality is that the law enforcement across the country, no matter where you are, has a responsibility as best that we can to keep people that are harmful to our community in custody, if that’s the case, or at least try and protect them as best we can,” he said.

He added, “The state is saying one thing the federal government says another. And the state’s trying to force us to break, somewhat, of federal law in saying that you can’t give them information. Don’t even answer the phone if ICE calls. Well, that’s just not realistic. That’s not something that we’re able to do. And I don’t believe, in my opinion, I would never speak for another sheriff鈥攂ut the reality is this is probably happening all over the country, and Adams County is being focused on just because of the narrative that’s being pushed to the fear mongering.”

Wagner then questioned the state’s stance, saying he doesn鈥檛 understand the pushback against cooperating with federal authorities.

“When we arrest a bad guy, when they have committed a heinous crime, we want them not to be back in our community, and me personally, I don’t understand why anybody would even fight that,” he said.

Seattle’s expanded substance abuse treatment pilot program: Smart investment amid budget struggles? /john-curley/substance-abuse-seattle/4072124 Tue, 08 Apr 2025 12:00:04 +0000 /?p=4072124 A new pilot program in Seattle is expanding access to substance abuse treatment, but is it a good investment amid the city’s ongoing financial issues?

成人X站 Newsradio host John Curley, unsure if this is the right use of city funds, invited , who launched the pilot program, onto “The John Curley Show” on 成人X站 Newsradio to dig into what this treatment center’s expanded access will bring.

“Rather than spending money somewhere else on this sort of stuff, why not get in there and actually get the person who’s got the addiction and get them really, really good treatment?” Curley asked.

“Well, it depends on what you call really good treatment,” Nelson replied. “It turns out there are a lot of politics to substance use disorder policy response. I fall squarely in the camp that if someone is cycling through chronic homelessness, several overdoses…we have got to help get them into treatment sooner rather than later, because if not, then they can change their mind…It doesn’t have to be abstinence-only treatment.”

‘Everybody deserves the same chance at recovery’

Having struggled with alcohol addiction herself, Nelson shared that she has a unique understanding of the challenges of substance abuse.

“My dad was an alcoholic. He tried quitting many, many times, and it wasn’t until he did inpatient treatment that he was able to basically spend the last 20 years of his life sober.” Nelson said.

Nelson even checked herself into an inpatient treatment in 2020.

“I figured I’ve got some time on my hands, why not just go for the method that has the best chance of success? So I checked myself in,” Nelson. “This pilot program that I started is motivated by the notion that everybody deserves the same chance at recovery that I had, period.”

“The barriers are time and money. Because if you don’t have money or insurance…you’re going to be on a waiting list, and that’s where the time kicks in,” Nelson said. “And while you’re waiting for a bed to open up…you could overdose in that interval. So we have to provide access when people are ready to take that step.”
