A recent survey revealed that Canadians have been cutting back on their Amazon purchases since Trump began intensifying his threats to impose tariffs on Canadian goods. According to a , two-thirds of respondents bought fewer American products, and 55% have decreased their orders from Amazon.

Trump鈥檚 repeated tariff threats and his remarks about turning Canada into a U.S. state have sparked rising anti-American sentiments across Canada. Many Canadians have reacted by sharing lists of local products, canceling trips to the U.S. and even booing the U.S. national anthem at sporting events.

Majority of Canadians surveyed don’t like Trump

The survey also showed that 77% of Canadians view Trump unfavorably, with only 14% expressing a positive opinion.

Trump’s tariffs on Canada and Mexico, which took effect on Tuesday, have shaken global markets and set the stage for retaliation from North America’s allies. The Leger Marketing poll, which was conducted from February 21 to 23, also found that Canadians are deeply concerned about Trump鈥檚 trade policies. Approximately 83% of respondents worry that tariffs could force Canada into a tighter economic relationship with the U.S., and nearly 75% support the idea of counter-tariffs if Trump proceeds with his plans.

As of Tuesday, imports from Canada and Mexico are now subject to a 25% tariff, with Canadian energy products facing an additional 10% levy.

A trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada would initially harm both nations, as Canada was the largest purchaser of U.S. goods exports in 2022, according to the .

While surveys do not always predict actual behavior, this one indicates that many Canadians are already reacting to Trump’s actions, particularly as his tariff threats have weakened the Canadian dollar, reducing Canadians’ purchasing power.
